THE FESTIVAL CONCEPT

Idea: a synthesis of art and charity
Aim: providing assistance to destitute kids: disabled ones, orphans, minor offenders – through calling for society attention and sponsor support.
Instruments: large-scaled events in forms of traditional festivals and other actions with the presence of politics and other «powerful» people – both on regional and federal levels.

THE FESTIVAL’S MOTTO: «TIME FOR CHARITY»

Why «Time for charity»? At first our idea was stricter – formulated like «The bell for charity»– for it’s probably only the bell left to get through to some of the «mighty» ones nowadays. Still we have decided to settle with «Time for charity». Now is the time for abstract generous ideas, exclamations and rage on dramatic situation of abandoned children to be replaced with concrete deeds and actions. The festival organizers and the Foundation President Vladimir Spivakov believe that it’s not the bell but the beautiful skills of young talented artists and musicians that will touch the hearts of people whose initiative will help to revive Russian traditions of charity and patronage - decent and noble!

FESTIVAL STORY LINES

1. Art of the youth meeting charity for the children. The festival participants become messengers of kindheartedness, making the society pay attention on the catastrophic situation and convincing people to make contributions.
2. New form of charity and support: sponsors have a unique opportunity of supporting children institutions (orphanages, minor offenders colonies) along with young stars – the Festival laureates.
3. Contest for the festival laureate title: the laureates will be granted with concert tours during the following year with the kind support of general sponsors all over Russia and outside its borders. The tour will carry the name «Time for charity».
4. Regional concerts as the selection tours for the Moscow final: the government of the region and the business elite invited to each concert along with the festival organization committee representative will take part in choosing the best participants to attend the main concerts on Moscow venues.
5. Vladimir Spivakov to deliver the ideas of the festival. Touring in Russia and all over the world, and in the interviews Maestro will be bringing the ideas of the festival according to its motto «Time for charity» to people everywhere.
6. Spivakov Foundation calendar events will take place under the aegis of the festival. All the events of the Foundation scheduled in 2007-2008 (which are about 300 in Moscow, Russia and abroad) are to carry the «Moscow meets friends» festival title and the «Time for charity» motto.
7. VIP-support. Many famous persons of sports, art, culture and politics will testify their adherence to the ideas of generosity and compassion distributed by the festival in media. Among those are: Vladislav Tretyak, Chulpan Khamatova, Oleg Tabakov, Galina Volchek, Eugeniy Mironov, Konstantin Raykin, Denis Solgenitsyn, Leonid Roshal, Svyatoslav Belsa, Alexander Sokolov, Leonid Parfyonov, Ekaterina Andreeva, Leo Bokeria, Anatoliy Pristavkin, Ilya Klebanov, Valeryi Draganov, Polad BulBul ogly, Michael Prusak, German Gref, Alexey Kudrin, Mikhail Gorbachyov, Alexander Lavrov, Nani Bregvadze, Iosif Kobzon, Islam Karimov, Robert Kocheryan, Koïchiro Matsuura, Ban Ki-moon, Terry Davis etc.

FORMS OF CHARITY

1. Regional sponsors provide direct support to children institutions in different forms: building renovation/reconstruction, providing equipment, study supplies, clothes, food etc. Each of these actions is fixed in the Book of charity of the «Moscow meets friends» Festival, covered by media and brought to the attention of local authorities. After the Festival finishes the Book of charity will be published and printed, with special named examples of it presented to the President of Russia, the speakers of both parliament chambers and the Moscow Mayor.
2. In the framework of the «Time for charity» program there is an opportunity of providing some charity support from Moscow government to several small towns and villages – building kinder gardens and schools, improvements on the children institutions territories etc. All carried out under the aegis of the Moscow Mayor.

SPONSORING MOTIVATION

1. Each sponsor will cooperate with one young talented musician – a festival laureate – being sort of a herald of his charitable assistance. This particular young artist will be appointed as a «patron» of the institution receiving support from the backer. Every concert or other event the musician will take part in will give him an opportunity to tell the audience about the institution and the support obtained from the sponsor. The according information will be placed on the posters, leaflets and tickets.
2. All the Foundation events taking place with the «Time for charity» motto during the year will cover the Festival, its progress and sponsors involvement into the program.

SPONSORING ISSUES

We clearly divide our potential supporters in 2 categories:

1. Sponsors, whose assistance is directly referred to a particular children institution and/or young artist – the Festival participant. In this case the organizers carry the coordinating functions only, providing informational and PR support, not interfering into the 2-side relations. The contracts with the institutions or the persons financed are signed directly.
2. Sponsors of the Festival, alternatively, provide financing or support in some other way of the Festival itself. For this category the contracts are signed with the organizing committee of the Festival, i.e. with the V. Spivakov Foundation in particular. The Foundation will thereafter distribute the resources in order to hold up the organization process.
3. Please find the conditions, advantages and benefits of sponsoring the Festival in a separate «Sponsor package»document.

FESTIVAL ORGANIZERS

The Festival is organized by the Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation in close cooperation with the Moscow Government and Moscow Committee of Culture with the support of:
  • United Nations

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation
  • Ministry of Culture and Mass Media of the Russian Federation

EXPECTED RESULTS

1. In the framework of the project we are planning to attract not less than 30 sponsors for about 20 children institutions in Russia regions. 2. About 20,000 people will have the opportunity to visit concerts and other Festival events. Not less than 10 mln people will see online translations and read publications on the festival. 3. Festival aims to influence the public positively in order to encourage charity and call for attention of the authorities and society to be paid on the abandoned children’s problems.

“Moscow Virtuosi” of today and tomorrow

Today's concert is called «“Moscow Virtuosi” of today and tomorrow»

Today's concert is dedicated to the “Moscow Virtuosi” of today and tomorrow. Here they are today: they are smiling, though active celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the “Moscow Virtuosi” has already begun. It has begun where the sun rises over our Power earlier than anywhere: they have already gained the delight of Far-Eastern Siberian audience once again.

Such prominent soloists as Mikhail Maisky, Eugeny Kisin, Maksim Vengerov, Denis Matsuev take part in the anniversary of the “Moscow Virtuosi”. They are the “Virtuosi” of today, but why it is called of “Tomorrow” as well? The fact is that as A.S. Pushkin said, “There are strange intimacies”. This year, this season we are celebrating a double and even triple anniversary connected to the name of Vladimir Spivakov. The thirtieth anniversary of the “Moscow Virtuosi” adjoins the fifteenth anniversary of Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation that is just raising successors: they are young virtuosi. There is a phrase: “The King is performed by the suite”. And today the celebrated orchestra that has gained a world-wide reputation plays the “suite” part that “performs “young princes and princesses” of our music. Ten Vladimir Spivakov Foundation scholars will appear on this famous and prestigious stage. The third anniversary is the one of the very Maestro which we will celebrate in September. But, let’s come back to the Foundation anniversary, as Vladimir Teodorovich does not like glorification about himself too much, that is why we will praise the “Moscow Virtuosi” and children gathered together by the Foundation today.

Thus, the “Moscow Virtuosi”! One can tell about their progress endlessly, but the Foundation for 15 years has become as follows: 1500 scholars, 350 prizewinners of international and All-Russian competitions, 91 surgical operations, performed with the support of the Foundation, 441 musical instruments presented to the young musicians, and finally, 96 young musicians forwarded to study at the most famous schools and conservatories of the world. But that is not all yet. The sixth international competition will be held this year, the scale of which is enlarging every year. It is called “Moscow Meets Friends” and is held under auspices of UNESCO. Vladimir Spivakov Foundation realizes such programs as “Children in trouble”, “Children to Children”, and “Children at the edge”. Besides, today’s concert gives start to one most generous program more. Vladimir Spivakov Charity Foundation and “Aeroflot” signed an agreement with regard to the start of “Inspired by music” program.

Thanks to this program the passengers of the largest domestic air company and participants of Aeroflot-bonus program will be able to present their bonus-miles to Spivakov Foundation that they could be used in order children could fly to different festivals, competitions and come to Moscow from other cities and countries to the “Moscow Meets Friends” Festival.

It should be mentioned that it is a very important and generous business, that it will be supported and get a great response. Besides, this program has begun in 30 cities of Russia, it provides for holding of the children drawings competition among the children with limited capacity. It is called “The heart has two wings”. Ten most talented children-painters will be invited to Moscow to participate in the “Moscow Meets Friends” Festival. On the whole, there is really much fulfillment and a heap of plans. And now let’s begin the concert, and it will be opened by tradition by the youngest participant of this concert – Vladislav Kern. He is a young pianist, a successor of a famous musical dynasty. He studies at the Central Musical School and he will perform the first part of the concerto by Bach for the piano with the orchestra in F Minor. I invite the young soloist and Vladimir Spivakov to the stage.

The performance of Vladislav Kern and the “Moscow Virtuosi”.

The orchestra wants to make a brilliant display of its skills not only when accompanying the young virtuosi. And let’s be talented as Vladimir Spivakov Foundation children as well. Therefore, three pieces from the Children Album by P.I. Tchaikovsky, “A play at horses”, “A sweet dream” and waltz will be performed now. Thus, state chamber orchestra “Moscow Virtuosi” directed by Vladimir Spivakov.

Now scherzo, “Tarantella” by Henryk Wieniawski will be performed and the soloist will be a young princess Alexandra Lee. She is 13. She studies at the Central musical school in the class of professor Eduard Grach. She is a prizewinner of 11 international and All-Russian competitions among which I would distinguish the Grand Prix at the international television competition “Nutcracker”, and last year she won the first prize at the contest of David Oistrakh that was devoted to the centenary of the great violinist. I think it should be appropriate to add that Alexandra Lee played the Italian violin chosen with the Maestro Spivakov own hand and presented by Vladimir Spivakov Foundation. The same can be said about the young musician who will appear on the stage next, with the only difference that he was presented not a violin but a flute made by the American firm “Powel”. It is Artem Naumenko. He studies at the Central musical school as well. He is a prizewinner of 5 international competitions, won the silver “Nutcracker”, the television contest, and the national prize “The Young triumph”. He will perform the piece “Venetian carnival”.

And now let’s fill with respect as a veteran will come on the stage. Indeed, he is just 18 years old, but he is really Vladimir Spivakov Foundation veteran. He was one of its first scholars. I remember rather well that he could not reach his instruments, he needed a special podium. When he dashingly managed the kettle-drums performing “Peter and a wolf” at Vladimir Spivakov Festival in Colmar, he was not seen from the kettle-drums and the audience was curious all the time who was playing the drum. Now he is a portly youth as tall as I am almost, he is a first year student at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, a prizewinner of 6 international competitions, he won the Grand Prix at the first international television competition “Nutcracker”, and “The Young triumph” as well. He studies both in the class of percussion instruments and piano. In general, he is an extraordinary promising young musician. He performed at the celebrated Carnegie Hall for three times. Rostislav Sharaevsky will appear on the stage now and the second and third part of Concerto IV by Vivaldi for the flute with the orchestra will be performed. I did not make a slip in speaking; it is the very transposition for this beautiful instrument Rostislav will play.

In the second part of the concert the “Moscow Virtuosi” will not have an occasion to play alone, they will only accompany young Virtuosi. Therefore, let’s give them an opportunity to make a brilliant display of their perfected skill. Luigi Rodolfo Boccherini, Symphony in R Minor. Final.

And once again the “Moscow Virtuosi” will serve as a pedestal for young virtuosi works. Now a concert by Pasquali on the themes from the opera “The Favourite” by Donizetti will be performed. The soloist is Sergey Finoedov. He studies at the Gnessin Musical College. He is a prizewinner of 10 international competitions, won “The Young triumph” and I will point once more that his oboe was presented by Vladimir Spivakov Foundation as well. Thus, Sergey Finoedov.

We proceed with our parade of Vladimir Spivakov Foundation scholarship holders. Our guest from Minsk, Ivan Karizna, opens the second part of the concert. He studies at the Republican Musical College attached to the Belorussian Academy of Music. He is a prizewinner of the international competitions; he took part in actions of Spivakov Charity Foundation more than once, including Vladimir Spivakov Festival in the city of Colmar. He plays the French violoncello that was bought by one of the Russian patrons of art at the request of Vladimir Spivakov Charity Foundation.

Nocturne by Tchaikovsky and quadrille from the opera “Not only love” by Rodion Shchedrin will be performed.

The “Moscow Virtuosi”, Ivan Karizna and Vladimir Spivakov.

Now a young musician will play to you. His biography shows what extensive prospects open up before Vladimir Spivakov Foundation scholars. He is a trumpet-player, his name is Kirill Soldatov. He was a disciple of Vladimir Spivakov Charity Foundation, and at seventeen when he studied his first year at the Russian Academy of Music, Maestro Spivakov invited the boy to the National Philharmonic of Russia directed by Vladimir Spivakov, and Kirill became the youngest soloist of this orchestra. And he has been playing there for five years already. He is a prizewinner of the international competition. He graduated from the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. Just in December “Crescendo” Festival was hold in Israel, and just he was committed to play the solo trumpet part in the first famous concerto by Shostakovich, and his partner was none other than Denis Matsuev.

Thus, Kirill Soldatov. And the “Brilliant Fantasia” by Jean Baptist Arban will be performed now. It won’t be a surprise for you if I tell you that the trumpet was presented in one’s time by Vladimir Spivakov Foundation as well. Kirill Soldatov.

And now a delightful Rossini. The final of Sonata No 3. Vladimir Spivakov and the “Moscow Virtuosi”.

Now you will meet a charming princess of saxophone. Her name is Asya Fateeva. She studied in Moscow at the Gnessin Musical College. Now she is a student of the High School of Music in Cologne. The first saxophone she got was presented to her by Vladimir Spivakov Charity Foundation. But now she is a prizewinner of seven international competitions, and a year ago she won “The Gold Saxophone” contest in Germany that was held by “Yamaha” Corporation. You will see and hear this gold saxophone now.

“Fantasia” by Messiaen will be performed. It is one of the first compositions written especially for saxophone. Asya Fateeva.

Maestro and I supposed that Asya Fatteva would make an impression on you, and therefore I will tell you at once that she will come back to the stage. But before that I will invite an accordion player Nikita Vlasov. He became a scholar of Vladimir Spivakov Charity Foundation being a little boy. Now he is as tall as Rostislav Sharaevsky. He is a student of Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory, a prizewinner at good dozens of international competitions, including the World Cup in New York City. And you will be presented a whole union of tango by Ástor Piazzolla. At first, Nikita Vlasov with the “Moscow Virtuosi” directed by Vladimir Spivakov will play the famous tango “Oblivion”, then Asya Fateeva will join him and they will perform the tango “Hello, grandfather”. Afterwards, Asya, however, will leave the stage, and the final tango will be “The Angel”.

Thus, as the curtain fell, we reserved an item of an absolutely special type. “Czardas” by Monty will be performed and Lada Belikova will appear as the soloist. She lives and studies in Ivanovo. She is a prizewinner at the All-Russian vocal and tap-dancing competitions. Moreover, she is a silver medallist of the Russian Championship for tap-dancing in 2008. Lada Belikova.

Here they are… Here they are, today’s and future Virtuosi.
